FOX POINT, WI — Head north from Milwaukee along Lake Michigan and the housing landscape begins to change.
Properties become more spacious in parts of the North Shore, wooded lots become more common and some of southeastern Wisconsin's most valuable residences appear along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Fox Point sits squarely within that luxury housing market.
Fox Point Makes Luxury Housing Headlines The strength of Fox Point's upper-end market was demonstrated dramatically in 2026.
A nearly 8,000-square-foot waterfront residence previously owned by former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer sold for $5.2 million in February, according to Realtor.com.
The transaction reportedly became the second-highest residential sale in Milwaukee County history. Most Fox Point homes don't sell for anything close to $5 million, of course. Zillow placed the community's typical home value at approximately $553,000 in August 2026.
Redfin, meanwhile, reported a median sale price of roughly $637,000 during the three months ending in August.
Because Fox Point is a relatively small market, monthly and quarterly statistics can move sharply depending on the mix of properties sold.
What Makes Fox Point Different?
Compared with Shorewood and Whitefish Bay, Fox Point generally offers buyers opportunities for more space and privacy.
The community contains established homes on wooded properties as well as some extraordinary residences overlooking Lake Michigan.
That creates a housing market capable of serving several tiers of affluent buyers—from households purchasing conventional single-family homes to buyers seeking multimillion-dollar estates.
Close to Milwaukee Without Feeling Urban
Fox Point remains within Milwaukee County, giving residents relatively convenient access to downtown Milwaukee and the broader metropolitan economy. Yet its residential environment can feel considerably removed from the denser neighborhoods closer to downtown.
For executives and professionals relocating to Wisconsin, that can be a major attraction: a household can obtain more space without moving to the far reaches of the metropolitan area.
Lakefront Homes Are a Market of Their Own
Relocators should understand that Lake Michigan frontage creates a separate tier within the North Shore market.
Waterfront properties are scarce, and individual characteristics—including frontage, views, lot dimensions, home condition and architecture—can have an enormous impact on price.
That means a villagewide median price isn't particularly useful for estimating what a prime lakefront property should cost.
Buyers entering that segment should evaluate comparable waterfront transactions specifically.
Fox Point vs. Whitefish Bay
For some relocators, the choice will come down to lifestyle. Whitefish Bay offers a compact village environment and established neighborhoods close to Milwaukee. Fox Point generally becomes more compelling for buyers seeking larger properties, greater privacy and access to a higher-end estate market. Both provide North Shore access without putting residents far from Wisconsin's largest city.
A Destination for Milwaukee's Luxury Buyers
Fox Point demonstrates just how diverse Milwaukee-area real estate can be.Within a relatively short drive of downtown, buyers can move from dense urban neighborhoods to substantial wooded properties and multimillion-dollar homes overlooking one of the world's largest freshwater lakes.
For affluent households relocating to southeastern Wisconsin, Fox Point belongs on the short list of communities to explore.
